The Art of Snacks
About This Spot
Stepping into The Art of Snacks feels like settling into a familiar, unpretentious neighborhood haven where the pace slows just enough to enjoy a good conversation and a satisfying meal. Nestled on S 2nd Street in Raton, this approachable spot carries the warmth of a local friend’s kitchen combined with the casual hum of a well-loved gathering place.
The atmosphere hums quietly with the casual rhythm of everyday life — friendly hosts ready to navigate your culinary preferences and a steady flow of visitors who come seeking both comfort and a hint of New Mexican soul. Here, meals arrive with a sense of care, accompanied by light moments between staff and guests that make you feel like part of a shared experience rather than just a patron.
The menu offers an inviting blend of hearty and playful, where classic American snack bar staples are infused with the region’s signature green and red chile flavors — from burgers topped with a spicy kick to fries smothered in layers of cheese and chile that hint at tradition without overshadowing the simple joys of a well-made dish. The selection extends beyond the savory with sweet treats like flaky apple fritters and rich chocolate ice cream topped with fresh whipped cream, perfect for when you want to round out your stop with a little indulgence.
There’s a genuine warmth in the way the kitchen handles each request, whether you’re in for a quick takeout or savoring a relaxed meal inside. The staff’s readiness to help with menu choices, especially when it comes to navigating the subtle heat levels of their chile offerings, speaks to their understanding that this isn’t just food — it’s an experience meant to celebrate local flavors with heart.
Visitors often linger not just for the food but for the moment — a shared joke with the owner, the comfort of a spot that feels grounded in its community, and the simple pleasure of bites that speak to New Mexico’s culinary character. It’s a place where the casual meets the thoughtful, inviting you to slow down and discover the art woven into everyday snacks and classic comfort food alike.

Best cinnamon roll ever! Staff or owner very helpful. Great food, caution if they ask if you want red pepper, green, or both like Christmas, red is hot. Very enjoyable stop. Photo is frito pie

A very unassuming place with really good food! My son devoured the bacon cheese fries. They were so hot and fresh. The walking taco was really flavorful and delicious. The club sandwich was huge and tasty too. Definitely recommend giving this place a try.

Great taste of New Mexico, our home state! Loved the patty melt with green chiles and the red chile with French fries was delicious! On our way home from vacation, we hit the restaurant with a crowd while traveling in 2 vans with 8 kids between us. The owner was friendly and helpful and made sure we all got everything we needed. We will definitely stop by any time we are in the area!

If you want a great bite to eat off of 25, this is your place. The bun was soft and toasted, the meat seasoned, the green chili was spicy - but not too hot, and the bacon was chopped. The burger was great. Pat the owner came and chatted with me for a bit. Nice time.

Glad we stopped by for dinner on a road trip. The burgers and fries are good. Club sandwich is good- green chilis are a nice touch. The frito pie is a local twist on the Texas classic, the meat chili is replaced by a choice of red or green chili sauce.

Unique place, great food! Gave it 4 stars only because I like a little extra salt with my fries otherwise, great people, felt safe with the kids and yummy!! They even went out their way to make something special for our youngest! Would recommend if you’re passing through!

I saw the posted reviews before we saw the place. Not going to lie, even with the good reviews we almost skipped it. It's a tiny little place tucked away between buildings. But some of the best places we've eaten at have been tiny little places, so we ventured for it. The staff was so friendly and helpful. Amazing burgers! My husband had the Turkey and cheddar with green chilis, he said it was really good too! They had a wide variety if sandwiches and hot dogs and they said the chili was really popular, but since we are on the road for a few days, not sure my sensitive stomach was up for that challenge.
